How did we get here?

Welcome to Moon Cats. We hope you enjoy browsing our selection of records which are available to tantalise your eardrums. Hopefully you will discover something new along the way.

So how did we get here? And how are we different to all of the other record store shops available online? And who are the faces behind Moon Cats?

Well, the answers to all of these are simple. The adventure of Moon Cats Records started with a couple of vinyl enthusiasts in Edinburgh, Neil and Nicola (Although you will know of us as Mr and Mrs Moon Cat) We had dreams of opening a real record store with in store gigs and beer available on tap, as well as the finest selection of records which were all handpicked by us. Sadly the cost of getting a store up and running with real brick and mortar is pretty much impossible, so this is basically acting as a crowd funder which will allow us to do this.

We want all of our customers to have a say in what we stock and will do our upmost to get the best products in for you (the tell us what you want bit on the site) please use this!   We can’t stress how important it is for us to communicate with our fellow music lovers and we want to be able to have a record store which is relevant to your musical tastes, although we don’t have the physical shop, we still want the community which comes with it.

But what about your crazy name I hear you ask?

The name came from a recent visit to Chess Records in Chicago (If you ever get a chance to go, you really need to!) Willie Dixon’s grandson conducts tours around the old recording studio and its magical; he’s also one cool cat! The name Moon Cats evolved from the Willie Dixon track, ‘Moon Cat’ but as there are two of us in this adventure, we couldn’t just be one cat now could we? 😉 This is our favourite song by the blues extraordinaire and well worth a listen –>

I think that rounds us our first blog post, but keep your eyes peeled for new ones! Follow us on social media and please spread us like butter! We really appreciate all of your support so far and we can’t wait to hear from you all! Moon Cats HQ
